Operation London Bridge Recap

We're on the 8th day of Operation London Bridge and I thought it would be good to recap what has happened so far.

D-Day

The second Elizabethan Age came to an end with the passing of the Queen on the 8th of September. Because the announcement was made later in the day it was decided to push back Operation London Bridge to Friday. This gave the Royal Family time to make their various arrangements.

D-Day+0

Friday, September 9th, the Bells of St. Paul's, Westminster Abbey and Windsor Castle tolled and there was a gun salute. 96 shots rang, 1 for each year of the Monarch's life. 

A 10 hour session was held in the House of Commons, where legislators could share their memories of the Queen.

The new King Charles III returned to London and delivered a message to the nation

A service of remembrance was held at St. Paul's. In attendance was the Prime Minister and senior politicians. 

It was on this day that God Save the King was sung for the first time in 70 years.

D-Day+1

Saturday September 10th, King Charles III made a personal declaration during the Accession Ceremony at St. James' Palace

The new King met with Great Britain's Accession Council. 

The Prince of Wales, Princess of Wales, Harry and Meghan later met with crowds at Windsor castle.

D-Day+2

Sunday, September 11th, the Queen left Balmoral for the last time and made the 6 hour journey to Holyroodhouse. Princess Anne accompanied her mother for her final journey.

D-Day+3

Monday, September 12th, King Charles addressed the houses of Parliament at Westminster Hall. Later in Edinburgh, the immediate Royal Family members moved the Queen's coffin from Holyroodhouse to St. Giles Cathedral where they attended a small service and began the vigil. Princess Anne became the first woman to take part in the vigil of the princes.

D-Day+4

Tuesday, September 13th, King Charles and the queen consort flew to Ireland, delivered a speech to lawmakers and met with the Irish President. 

The King and Queen consort then returned to London.

Princess Anne flew with the Queen's coffin from Edinburgh back to London. The Queen's coffin was then driven to Buckingham Palace. 

D-Day+5

Wednesday, September 14th, the Queen's coffin was moved from Buckingham Palace to Westminster Hall where she will lie in State until the morning of her funeral.

The Archbishop of Canterbury conducted a short service before the Lying-in-State began at 5 PM.

D-Day+6

Thursday, September 15th, the lying-in state continued as the focus was on the long queue. 

D-Day+7

Friday, September 16th, the lying-in state continued.

The queue got special attention today as David Beckham stood in line to pay his respects.

King Charles visited Wales.

D-Day+8

Saturday, September 17th, the lying-in state continued as Dignitaries arrived in London ahead of the funeral. 

The Queen's grandchildren held vigil around their grandmother's coffin. 

Tomorrow will be the final day the Queen lies in State before the coffin processes to Westminster Abbey. Approximately 2000 people, including dignitaries from around the world, will attend the funeral Monday morning. It is expected to be the most highly viewed event ever.
