Queen Elizabeth II Leaves Buckingham Palace, Lies in Westminster Hall

The Royal Family accompanied the Queen today as she left Buckingham Palace for one final time. She made her last trip down the Mall, Horse Guards Road, across Horse Guards Parade, onto Whitehall to Parliament Square and finally to Westminster Hall.

The Archbishop of Canterbury conducted a short service before the Lying-in-State began.

The coffin is covered by the Royal Standard with a wreath of flowers from the grounds and the Imperial Crown. The coffin is sitting on top of a purple catafalque which is on a red platform.

The queue for the public to pay their respects to the Queen is said to have been at least 6.5 km long. It begins at the Albert Embankment, Lambeth Bridge and queues all along the South Bank of the Thames.

The Queen will remain at Westminster Hall for four days until her funeral on 19 September.
