Place of Interest: Tiny Police Post at Trafalgar Square

Trafalgar Square has always been the place of protest. During the Victorian era Trafalgar Square was ground zero for clashes between the haves and have-nots. This required more security in the area, such as police boxes.

At the southeast corner of Trafalgar Square, there was an old lamppost that was hollowed out to accommodate the police in the area. It could fit at most three people at one time. The lamppost was repurposed after the public didn't want the police box outside Trafalgar Square Station as a permanent fixture.

If there was the potential for violent outburst or if riot police were stationed at this post they could notify Scotland Yard to send backup. The light on top of the box would flash to signal a warning whenever the phone to the Canon Row police station was picked up.

The ornamental light is said to be from Lord Nelson's HMS Victory, but this hasn't been proven with any concrete evidence.

Today this infamously small police post is a broom cupboard for Westminster Council. I feel a Harry Potter reference coming on.
