Welcome to your guide to all things #PlatinumJubilee. I'll list everything that is planned to take place for the next couple days and update the site accordingly. The Queen's Platinum Jubilee runs from June 2-5 and full coverage of the events will be shown on CBC here in Canada beginning at 4 AM CDT/5 AM EDT Thursday, June 2nd.
Thursday, June 2 - Trooping The Colour
![]() |
Celebrations begin with Trooping the Colour, an annual celebration of the Queen's birthday. There'll be 1400 military personnel and 250 horses parading through London. Most Royal Family members will be in horse drawn carriages, however Prince Charles, Prince William, and Princess Anne will be on horseback. Working members of the family will then gather on the balcony for a flypast by the Royal Air Force.
Watch (and re-watch) the trooping of the colour here.
Thursday, June 2 - Lighting of Principal Beacon
As is customary for special occasions affecting the Royal Family, the Principal Beacon (a 70 foot tree) will be lit during a special ceremony at Buckingham Palace. More than 3000 beacons will be set ablaze across the U.K. and the Commonwealth as a tribute to the monarch. Sites include the Tower of London, Windsor Great Park, Hillsborough Castle and the Queen's estates of Sandringham and Balmoral.
The special ceremony will begin at 3 PM CDT/4PM EDT.
Friday, June 3 - Service of Thanksgiving at St. Paul's
On Friday, a Service of Thanksgiving will be held at St. Paul's, as is tradition for Jubilees and Special Occasions affecting the Royal Family. All family members plan to attend the event. The Archbishop of Canterbury, who usually oversees special occasions with the Royal Family, will not be in attendance after contracting Covid-19. Stephen Cottrell, the Archbishop of York, will speak instead.
The Service of Thanksgiving will begin at 3:15 AM CDT/4:15 EDT.

Saturday, June 4th - The Derby and Platinum Jubilee Concert
A celebration for the Queen wouldn't be complete without a Derby. The Derby will be held at Epsom Downs. The Queen will have a horse in the race named Just Fine. It's said the Queen will not attend the Derby, and will opt to watch the race from Windsor instead.
The Derby will begin at 10:30 AM CDT/11:30 EDT.
The Platinum Jubilee Concert will be held at Buckingham Palace later in the evening London Time. The Band Queen and Adam Lambert will open the show and Diana Ross will close the night.
Brian May of Queen said, "Twenty years after playing The Queen's glorious Golden Jubilee we're very happy to be invited again."
In a statement, Diana Ross said, "I have had the honor of meeting The Queen many times throughout my life, including when I was with my family. Her Majesty has and continues to be such an incredible inspiration to so many across the world and I was absolutely delighted to receive an invitation to perform on such a momentous and historic occasion."
It's been 15 years since Diana Ross last performed in the U.K.
According to the Jubilee website, the three-stage setup will also host performances from Hans Zimmer, Ella Eyre, Craig David, Mabel, Elbow, George Ezra, Andrea Bocelli, Mimi Webb, Sam Ryder, Jax Jones, Celeste, Nile Rodgers, Sigala and Diversity.
You can watch the Platinum Jubilee Concert below.
Another celebratory event for the Queen Saturday is her great-granddaughter Lilibet's first birthday.
Prince Charles and Camilla will attend a Big Jubilee Lunch at the Oval Cricket Ground, but everyone is encouraged around the Commonwealth to have Jubilee lunches in their neighborhoods and celebrate.
A Jubilee Pageant will be held throughout the City as a procession travels through the streets of London, showcasing iconic moments from the Queen's reign. Approximately 10,000 people will be involved, including 2750 military personnel, 6000 volunteers, performers, key workers, and 2500 members of the public.
The Procession will be led by the Gold State Coach, where coverage of Queen Elizabeth's Coronation will show.
From the Royal.uk website:
To mark the beginning of the Platinum Jubilee Pageant, the bells of Westminster Abbey will peel as they did on Coronation Day. As they do so, the Mounted Band of the Household Cavalry will lead The Gold State Coach, drawn – as it always has been – by eight Windsor Grey horses. The Gold State Coach transported The Queen to her Coronation 69 years ago, and has not been seen in on the streets of London for over twenty years.
However on this occasion the Gold State Coach will play a very particular role in the Pageant, not transporting Her Majesty The Queen but showcasing in the coach windows, original film footage recorded on Coronation Day, evoking the image of The young Queen on that day.
Adrian Evans, Pageant Master says: “Everywhere you look, in the golden sculptures and painted panels, in the uniforms of the postillions, grooms, footmen, attendants and mounted guards, there is rich tradition and history. It will be a unique spectacle that we are privileged to be opening the Pageant with it will set the tone for the very many spectacular sights to come.”
There are four parts to the pageant. Part One is a military spectacle, which celebrates military personnel from across the commonwealth. Part Two is titled The Time of Our Lives, and shows how British Life has transformed during the Queen's Reign. Part Three is a show of celebration through community spirit and creativity. Part Four is the final moment of the Platinum Jubilee Pageant in front of Buckingham Palace.
The Platinum Jubilee Pageant can be viewed below.
