The bells of St. Paul's rang in solidarity with Lviv's bells today at 4 PM GMT during evensong.
Reverend Dr. David Ison, Dean of St. Paul's, said "We hope the people of Ukraine will see the recording of the bell ringing in London and find comfort in this act of solidarity. We continue to pray for strength and safety for the many people affected by the conflict, and for peace in Ukraine and around the world."
The bells in Durham, as well as at other parishes will also ring in solidarity with Ukraine.
Kenneth Nowakowski, Bishop of the Ukrainian Catholic Eparchy of Holy Family of London and from Saskatchewan, will attend prayers at St. Paul's with members of the Ukrainian Catholic Church in Great Britain. He released a statement saying, "We are grateful to the community at St. Paul's Cathedral in London for this sign of solidarity with our brothers and sisters in Ukraine who also will be ringing bells at the same time. This will mean so much to the mayor of the western city of Lviv, Mr. Andriy Sadovyi, who had advised that the bells in Ukraine and western Ukraine will also be ringing, giving people hope in this situation of crisis"
This comes a few days after Lyse Doucet, Canadian journalist and the BBC's Chief International Correspondent and senior presenter, moved viewers to tears by speaking about the bells that tolled from St. Michael's while standing in front of St. Sophia's.

Lyse Doucet said during the interview with Ros Akins: "When we were in another position it was St. Michael's...I have to tell you the bells of St. Michael's still chime on the hour, the bells a reassuring on the clock message across the city that all is not lost and that perhaps someday this country will resume its rhythms and rituals."
She went on: "Every time I hear the bells of St. Michael’s it reminds me of another time and it sends a message right across this country, because across this country the monasteries that are still standing, the bells, the bells, they toll for Ukraine."
